Journal of Mediterranean Cities, Volume 4, Issue 1, 2024
This issue of the Journal of Mediterranean Cities explores diverse challenges and innovations in architecture, urban planning, and education across the Mediterranean region. The collection includes interdisciplinary case studies such as the integration of architectural and engineering education in collaborative design studios, alongside analyses of passive solar strategies and their impact on thermal comfort. The issue also delves into the adaptive reuse of historical structures, such as abandoned churches in Cyprus, and the fragility of small historical centers in Italy.
Further, it examines contemporary urban preservation challenges in Andalusian mountain settlements, innovations in building information modeling (BIM) education, and urban resilience through public space morphology in Algeria. Additional articles focus on the spatial impacts of mega transportation corridors on local land use in Cairo and strategies for optimizing indoor comfort and energy efficiency using responsive facades. This diverse array of topics provides a rich perspective on both the historical and future-facing dynamics of Mediterranean cities.
